STABLE PLATFORM
I’m 99.999% satisfied with this. My only hinky point is that it is extremely flat, but most car dashboards are not completely flat. While it is likely the most practical design, it still seems a little off. If I had the ability to give it 4.75 stars, I would. I had a different one before this one, and it seems to fit a tiny bit better. (It was not available for re-order, so I got this one).

Update, 11/18/2020: I guess the summer sun, in Upstate New York, is too much for the rubber strip to take; it keeps coming unglued and falling off. Otherwise, this is still a pretty nice device.Update, 10/28/2019About one month after I received the Aonkey phone holder, the rubber strip came unglued and fell off the of the bottom of the top jaw. A couple drops of glue remedied for now.I know that when I clamp my iPhone 8 between the spring-loaded jaws of this Aonkey holder, it will hold it firmly and securely in place, even on curvy and bumpy country roads.I would recommend this product to a friend.————————————-I purchased the Aonkey Dashboard Cell Phone Holder to hold my iPhone 8 and it does hold it securely, but only in the horizontal position. In fairness, nothing in the product’s online advertisement claimed that it would hold a cell phone in the vertical position, so I never expected it to do so. However, the included instruction sheet is not for this model, and the model shown does claim to hold a phone in the vertical position. I would have really preferred that model.Pros: (1) a spring tension plastic clip, equipped with a set of upper and lower silicone lined jaws, hold a cell phone securely in place; (2) the jaws of the phone holder open to a generous 4.5″; (3) the silicone jell base very securely adheres to the slightly pebble-grained, hard vinyl dashboard of my Toyota Camry; (4) for even greater adhesion, you only have to remove a thin plastic wrap covering an extra sticky area of the base; (5) and a recessed area at the center of the base is designed to act as a suction cup, probably for vehicles equipped with a smooth dashboard; (6) it comes with yet an additional double-sided tape, foam rubber oval, to more permanently mount the holder to a dashboard; (7) when empty, (sans cell phone), the base has a nice low profile, measuring about 1.25″ from top to bottom; (8) the clip is double-grooved to slightly vary the angle of the cell phone, potential reducing screen glare; (9) without using the more permanent foam rubber mount, the holder can easily be moved from vehicle to vehicle; (10) although this holder is made almost entirely out of plastic and silicone, it appears to be well made and sturdy.Cons: as noted above, (1) this model is incapable of securely holding a cell phone in a vertical position; (2) and it comes with the wrong product instruction sheet.Since the “pros” vastly outnumber the “cons,” I’m giving this product five stars.

Fit a thick phone case
The phone case I use has a flap on the back that holds 1 ID card and 3 debit cards. I also use a finger strap on the case. The vehicle I drive is a ’06 Nissan Frontier.I’ve search many products that claim to hold a thick phone with case. I’ve been disappointed by two previous purchases that couldn’t come close to holding a phone of about 27mm at the thickest point.This one does- although the orientation is in landscape. I’ll take it. It’s better than my thick phone vibrating out of the too-small-holder while driving down the highway at a busy interchange when I need my navigation.The bottom surface has a gel pad and a center area that is more adhesive. My dash does not have a flat surface, but without using the center adhesive pad (it has a removable/replaceable plastic protector), it does not shift much on short trips to test.I am able to set the holder close to the windshield as it has a smaller over-all footprint than using an arm mounted holder that obstructs more of your view while driving. With far fewer parts than an arm mounted holder that uses cheap parts to maintain position- it never sags or droops out of position or onto my charging cable. Access to charge is never a problem. Securing the charging cable while phone is in use is a consideration although there are ways to manage it.Since I am required to display state inspection stickers on my windshield, that is the perfect spot to place the holder and not lose anymore visibility while driving.It clamps the phone in place and offers different positions to angle the phone. It does not clamp-down too hard on the case but strong enough to hold the phone in place.I have another phone case with a round socket device that I believe would fit into this phone holder as well. (Yet to be tested.)I am pleased with this product. I am never inconvenienced with removing and reinserting my phone into the case while on road trips and the stops along the way. I want to travel light, get in- get out, and this phone holder finally makes that easy to do.
